There is uncertainty about the 2020 college football season as the country continues to deal with the COVID-19 health crisis.
But there is no doubt Oregon has two of the most dominant players in the sport in left tackle Penei Sewell and defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Sewell, the reigning Outland Trophy winner, and Thibodeaux, last year’s Pac-12 defensive freshman of the year, were both named preseason all-Americans by the Sporting News on Thursday.
The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Sewell is projected to be one of the top picks in the 2021 NFL draft, if he leaves following his junior season with the Ducks.
Thibodeaux, a 6-5, 250-pound sophomore, is trending towards being a coveted pick in the 2022 draft after leading the team with nine sacks and 14 tackles for loss last season.
Oregon State linebacker Hamilcar Rashed, who had 14 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss for the Beavers in 2019, is also on the Sporting News’ preseason all-American first team.
Stanford left tackle Walker Little and Washington linebacker Joe Tryon are on the second team.
The Ducks, coming off a 12-2 season capped with a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin, will be favored to repeat as Pac-12 champions.
Oregon is scheduled to open the season against FCS champion North Dakota State on Sept. 5 at Autzen Stadium.
