TrackTown CEO says all organizations responsible for hosting event are closely monitoring developments with coronavirus.

Plans for Eugene to host the 2020 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials at the new Hayward Field are proceeding as planned, TrackTown USA CEO Michael Reilly announced Friday.

The trials are scheduled to run June 19-28.

Reilly released a statement saying that all organizations involved in hosting the trials are closing monitoring ongoing medical happenings related to the coronavirus.

"We take the safety and security of those participating in and attending our events very seriously," Reilly announced. "The Public Safety Committee for our Local Organizing Committee is comprised of experts from relevant government agencies at the city, county, state, and federal levels."

Reilly made the announcement after talks with USA Track & Field and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.

However, the release of additional tickets for sale that was scheduled for Monday has been postponed.

Should the event be canceled, the policy will be to refund customers who have purchased tickets.

The 2020 Olympics in Tokyo are scheduled to start on July 24. On Friday, Japan’s Olympic minister said that the Summer Games will "absolutely not" be postponed.

"The (International Olympic Committee) and the organizing committee are not considering cancellation or postponement— absolutely not at all," Seiko Hashimoto said.
