CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. — The No. 17 Oregon softball team ran its record to 11-0 Thursday with two wins in the Mary Nutter Classic.
The Ducks downed Bethune-Cookman 8-0 in six innings before a 7-2 win over Mississippi State.
Oregon scored seven runs in the first two innings against Bethune-Cookman. Terra McGowan doubled in the top of the first to score Haley Cruse before a Mya Felder single and an error brought home two more runs.
McGowan had another RBI single in the second before Rachel Cid, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, hit a two-run homer. Felder doubled home the fourth run of the inning before McGowan capped the scoring by doubling home Cruse in the sixth.
Cruse, McGowan and Felder all had three hits in the 14-hit attack and Cruse, McGowan and Allee Bunker all scored twice. Felder and McGowan had three RBIs apiece.
Samaria Diaz threw three shutout innings before Brooke Yanez threw three hitless innings of relief with six strikeouts to get the win.
The Ducks scored in the first inning against Mississippi State on a McGowan RBI single to score Cruse. The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth before Oregon responded in the bottom of the inning with five runs to take control.
Vallery Wong gave the Ducks the lead for good with a two-run double before Cruse singled in a run and Cid hit a two-run single. Bunker capped the scoring in the sixth with a run-scoring single.
Cruse had three hits and scored three times and McGowan had two hits in the Ducks' 10-hit attack.
Jordan Dail allowed four hits and two earned runs in the first four innings to get the win. Yanez threw three scoreless innings for the save.
