Mario Cristobal moved quickly to replace Donte Williams.

The Oregon football coach will hire Rod Chance, a former defensive analyst for the Ducks, as cornerbacks coach. He replaces Williams, who departed the Ducks last week for USC.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic was the first to report the hire.

Chance was with the Ducks in 2018 before spending last season as an assistant at Minnesota. He was the defensive coordinator at Southern Utah in 2016-17.

Chance coached at Autzen Stadium on Sept. 2, 2017 when Oregon defeated Southern Utah 77-21. The Thunderbirds went on to win the Big Sky Conference and reach the FCS playoffs that season before finishing 9-3.

Chance played defensive back for four seasons at Rhode Island before beginning his coaching career at Alpharetta (Ga.) High School. He was a defensive quality control coach for four seasons at Vanderbilt before being hired at Southern Utah.
