HOUSTON — The Oregon softball team had no trouble scoring runs Saturday in an 18-3 win over Dayton and a 9-4 win over Houston to move to 8-0 on the season.
In the second game against Houston, Oregon broke away from a 4-4 tie after three innings.
Terra McGowan's RBI double in the top of the fourth inning gave No. 21 Oregon (8-0) the lead for good at 5-4.
Oregon capped the scoring with four solo home runs, including three in the fifth inning from Rachel Cid, Mya Felder and Vallery Wong before Haley Cruse's solo shot in the sixth inning.
Cruse, McGowan, Felder and Cid all had two hits against Houston, and Cid drove in three runs. Cruse scored three times.
Samaria Diaz picked up the win in the pitching circle for Oregon with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief of starter Jordan Dail. Diaz struck out four, allowed two hits and walked none.
Against Dayton to start the day, the Ducks won in a game called after five innings because of the run rule.
Leading 7-1 after three innings, Oregon scored 11 runs in the top of the fourth that included six run-scoring singles.
Cid scored four times and Cruse and former Marist High start Ariel Carlson scored three runs apiece. Carlson also homered among her three RBIs and McGowan also homered.
