PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico — Brooke Yanez shut down BYU in Oregon's first game on Friday, then the Ducks' offense went to work on George Washington.
The end result of those impressive performances were two wins for No. 24 Oregon during the second day of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge tournament.
Oregon scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and held on for a 3-1 win against the Cougars. Yanez went the distance from the circle for the Ducks (3-0), allowing just three hits and striking out 17 as the transfer from UC Davis improved to 2-0.
Haley Cruse and Terra McGowan had RBI singles in the fifth for Oregon, and Rachel Cid had an RBI single in the first.
In the second game, the Ducks scored 10 runs in the second inning en route to an 18-0 run-rule victory against George Washington.
McGowan and Cid both hit home runs for the Ducks, who had 19 hits total.
McGowan also doubled and went 3-for-4 with five RBI, Haley Cruse had three hits and three RBI, Cid had three hits, two RBI and scored four times, and Ariel Carlson had two doubles and three RBI.
Oregon will next play Nevada at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
