BOSTON — Carmela Cardama Baez broke a six-year-old Oregon school record Saturday when the senior finished sixth in the women's 5,000-meter run at BU Season Opener indoor track and field meet.

Cardama Baez finished fifth among collegians in 15 minutes, 25.41 seconds to break Jordan Hasay's 2013 indoor record of 15:40.30. The time also shattered Cardama Baez's indoor personal record of 15:55.00 set at the 2018 MPSF Championships. Her outdoor PR of 15:38.77 came at last year's Payton Jordan Invitational.

Cardama Baez was the only Oregon runner at the meet. She is coming off a strong outdoor season that saw her finish second in the 10,000 at the NCAA Championships.
