HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The 14th-ranked Oregon volleyball team lost for the fourth time in its past five matches Thursday with a 3-1 loss to St. John's to open the Hofstra Invitational.
The Red Storm improved to 6-4 with a 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 win over the Ducks (3-4).
Brooke Nuneviller paced the Ducks with 18 kills, Ronika Stone tallied 17 kills and Karson Bacon added 10. Kylie Robinson handed out 45 assists for the Ducks.
Oregon was without Willow Johnson for the fourth straight match, though the senior all-American did go through pregame warmups as she continues to work her way back from injury.
The Ducks had no answer for St. John's Efrosini Alexakou, who had 28 kills. Klara Mikelova and Rachele Rastelli added 11 kills apiece. Erica Di Maulo had 48 assists for the Red Storm.
Oregon will wrap up the tournament by playing Duke at 10 a.m. Friday and Hofstra at 4 p.m. Friday before the Sept. 26 Pac-12 opener at Oregon State.
