PITTSBURGH — The No. 10 Oregon volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday when the Ducks dropped a four-set match at No. 6 Pittsburgh.
The Panthers improved to 7-0 with a 26-24, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 win over Oregon (2-1).
Ronika Stone and Willow Johnson had 13 kills apiece for the Ducks with Brooke Nuneviller adding 10. Nuneviller and Johnson also had 16 and 10 digs, respectively, while Georgia Murphy had 14. Kylie Robinson handed out 44 assists.
In a back-and forth first set, Oregon had a 24-23 lead and was serving for the set, but three straight attack errors gave the set to the Panthers.
The Ducks jumped out to leads of 11-6 and 16-11 in the second set. After Pittsburgh took a 23-22 lead, a Nuneviller kill and two Pittsburgh attack errors gave the set to the Ducks.
With Oregon trailing 16-15 in the third set, Pittsburgh ran off four straight points for a 20-15 lead and eventually took the set.
A Stone kill gave the Ducks a 22-21 edge in the fourth set but Pittsburgh closed with four straight points on a kill and three Oregon attack errors to take the set and the match.
Kayla Lund and Nika Markovic had 14 kills apiece for the Panthers. Lexis Akeo handed out 39 assists.
