KEIZER — Salem-Keizer defeated Eugene 8-1 Sunday night in a Northwest League baseball game at Volcanoes Stadium.

The Volcanoes scored twice in the second inning when Ricardo Genoves walked and Carter Aldrete was hit by a pitch before the runners advanced on a balk. Kwan Adkins followed with a two-run single.

Eugene (19-25, 3-3) got a run in the third when Pedro Martinez walked before scoring on a single by Edmond Americaan.

Salem-Keizer (29-15, 3-3) added four runs in the fourth, beginning with a homer from Aldrete. Beicker Mendoza singled before Adkins followed with a home run to put the Volcanoes ahead 5-1.

Jeff Houghtby walked and went to third on an errant pickoff attempt by reliever Chris Allen before scoring on a sacrifice fly.

Eugene starter Eduarniel Nunez allowed six runs, including five earned, in 3 1/3 innings.

Salem-Keizer added two runs in the eighth off Allen.
