Oregon sophomore running backs CJ Verdell and Travis Dye were both named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award given to the nation’s top running back.
Verdell ranked third in the Pac-12 with 1,018 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2018 while becoming the third true freshman in UO history with a 1,000-yard season. He also had 27 catches for 315 yards and two scores.
Dye ran for 739 yards and four touchdowns, including a single-game freshman record of 199 yards in a 55-15 win over Oregon State on Nov. 23. He had 12 receptions for 69 yards and a score on the season.
Oregon is one of eight schools with two players on the 71-player watch list for the Doak Walker Award.
Oregon State’s Jermar Jefferson also made the list after running for 1,380 yards last year to lead all freshmen in the country. He was named Pac-12 offensive freshman of the year after ranking sixth on OSU’s single-season list for yards while scoring 12 touchdowns.
Jefferson ran for 254 yards against Arizona State and 238 against Southern Utah and had two games with four touchdowns.
