FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Oregon's Edwin Yi shot a 6-over 78 on Friday and is 11 strokes off the pace after the first round of the NCAA men's golf championships at Blessings Golf Club.

Yi, who advanced to the national tournament as an individual, is tied for 87th in the 156-player field.

California's Collin Morikawa fired a 5-under 67 and has a two-stroke lead over Chun An Yu of Arizona State, Kyler Dunkle of  Utah and Austin Eckroat of Oklahoma State. The Cowboys hold the first-day team lead at 290 and are followed by Stanford (291) and California and Auburn (both at 292).
