MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Oregon's Edwin Yi moved into a tie for the individual lead Tuesday during the second round of the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional men's golf tournament at TPC of Myrtle Beach.
Yi tied for the best round of the day at 5-under 67 on the 6,950-yard par 72 course to move into the lead at 8-under 136 with Illinois' Michael Feagles, who shot his second straight 68.
Ohio State's Caleb Ramirez is one shot behind the co-leaders.
Oregon is tied with Texas Tech for sixth in the team race at 1-over 577 after shooting even-par 288 Tuesday. The top five teams after Wednesday's third and final round advance to the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on May 24-29.
Ohio State leads the team race at 11-under 565 followed by Wake Forest and Illinois (567), UNLV (572), California (574), Oregon and Texas Tech. Florida State is one shot back of Oregon and Texas Tech and Northwestern three shots behind the Ducks and Red Raiders.
Oregon State is tied with Cal State Fullerton for 10th place at 14-over 590. The Beavers shot a 294 Tuesday.
Oregon State's Kyosuke Hara and Oregon's Yin Ho Yue are among the players tied for 26th at 2-over 146. Oregon's Ryan Gronlund and Oregon State's Spencer Tibbits are among the players tied for 34th at 3-over 147 with Oregon's Craig Ronne and Oregon State's Shawn Lu among the golfers another shot back in 41st place.
“Ed was awesome again," Oregon coach Casey Martin said in a school news release. "And we desperately needed him to be. Tomorrow we need all five guys to play well (to advance). We’re due for a good round and it needs to be tomorrow.”
