AZUSA, Calif. — Oregon's Max Vollmer scored 4,040 points Wednesday in the first five events of the decathlon competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational track and field meet Wednesday.

Vollmer, in his first collegiate decathlon, is in fifth place in his group. His day was highlighted by personal records in the 100 meters (10.87), shot put (49-2 1/2) and high jump (6-1 1/2). He is third among collegians in the meet.

Teammate Dalen Hargett scored 3,448 points and is in sixth place in his decathlon group. He had PRs in the 100 (11.23), long jump (20-10) and shot put (43-4 1/2).

In the heptathlon, Oregon's Keira McCarrell set four PRs in scoring 3,269 points, good for seventh place in her group. She had PRs in the 100 hurdles (14.48), high jump (5-5 3/4), shot put (39-4 1/2) and 200 (25.10).
