PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. — Led by Kathleen Scavo's even-par opening round, Oregon is in fourth place after Day 1 of the Pac-12 women's golf championship tournament on Monday at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Scavo's 71 put her in a three-way tie for sixth place and six shots behind leader Albane Valenzuela of Stanford. Petra Salko and Alexis Phadungmartvorakul are in a tie for 14th for the Ducks after both opened 2-over 73. Also for Oregon, Amy Matsuoka is in a tie for 25th at 4-over 75, and Tze-Han Lin is in a tie for 46th at 9-over 80.
Oregon's team total of 8-over 292 has then seven shots behind Southern California. Stanford is in second place at 5-over 289 and Arizona is in third at 6-over 290.
Oregon State is in 11th at 30-over 314, led by Ellie Slama who fired a 1-over 72. Nicole Schroeder carded a 9-over 80, and Olivia Benzin, Susie Cavanagh and Mari Nishiura each finished with a 10-over 81.
The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Pac-12 Networks will air live coverage of the finishing holes in the final round of the championship on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
