PULLMAN, Wash. — Tanner Smith, Evan Williams and Spencer Steer all homered, and Oregon held off Washington State for an 11-8 Pac-12 Conference baseball win Saturday at Bailey-Brayton Field.
Smith opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the third. Williams hit a solo shot in the fifth and Steer hit a grand slam in the sixth to stake the Ducks (21-12, 7-4 Pac-12) to an 8-0 lead.
The Cougars (7-25, 0-11) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sam Novitske's two-run single in seventh pushed the Ducks' lead to 10-2 before the Cougars scored six runs in the eighth off Oregon relievers to make it 10-8.
Oregon added a run in the ninth on Max Foxcroft's RBI double.
Novitske had four of the Ducks' 13 hits. Jonny DeLuca was the only other Oregon player with more than one hit as he had two hits, including a double. Cameron Campbell walked twice, had a hit, was hit by a pitch and scored four runs.
Cullen Kafka improved to 4-2 by allowing six hits, two walks and two runs over six innings while striking out six. Ryne Nelson pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his third save.
