Oregon men's basketball signee Chris Duarte has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association player of the year.

The Northwest Florida State College sophomore guard averaged 19.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks per game for the Raiders, who reached the final eight of the NJCAA national tournament.

Duarte, who started all 33 games for the Raiders, also shot 54.1% from the field, 40% from 3-point range and 80.8% from the free-throw line. Former Oregon standout Elgin Cook played at Northwest Florida State College before transferring to Oregon.

"Chris is everything a coach wants in a student-athlete," Northwest Florida State coach Steve DeMeo said in a school news release. "He is a great student, great person and a very special basketball player. Chris has really set the bar high here at Northwest Florida for all of our future Raiders, and I look forward to watching him grow and develop at Oregon and even beyond college."
