TEMPE, Ariz. — Cooper Teare flirted with a sub-4-minute mile and the Oregon relay teams dominated Saturday during the final day of the Sun Angel Track Classic hosted by Arizona State.
Teare won the men’s mile in 4:00.85, narrowly edging BYU’s Talem Franco, who was second in 4:00.91.
The Oregon sophomore ran his first sub-4 mile during the recently completed indoor season when he posted a 3:59.21 at the Razorback Invitational on January 26.
The Ducks got a 1-2 finish from Jackson VanVuran and John Nizich in the men’s javelin. VanVuran threw a personal-best 229 feet, 9 inches to get the win, and Nizich threw 217-9 for second.
Jonathan Harvey won the men’s 400 hurdles in a PR 51.03, and the Ducks also got three wins in the premiere relay races.
The team of Mckenzie Dunmore, Venessa D’Arpino, Jasmin Reed and Brianna Duncan won the women’s 4x100 in 44.34, and the men’s 4x100 of Spencer Schmidt, Cravon Gillespie, Rieker Daniel and Oraine Palmer won in 39.35.
The women’s 4x400 also picked up a win as the team of Waller, Khadejah Jackson, DesRosiers and Brown won the premiere race in 3:34.74.
Redshirt Susan Ejore set a PR in the women’s premiere 800 with her second-place finish in 2:03.09, Dunmore was second in the women’s premiere 100 in 11.50, and Robinson and Emily Sloan went 2-3 in the women’s 100 hurdles, respectively.
Oregon State redshirt freshman Keely McLaughlin tied the school record in the women’s shot put with a mark of 50-01/2 to place fourth. The record was first set by Kam Johnson in 1984.
