Fresno State scored eight runs in the sixth inning Thursday and went on to rout Oregon, 14-2, in the first of a four-game nonconference baseball series at PK Park.

Each team scored once in the first inning, and the Ducks (16-11) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Max Foxcroft singled up the middle to score Cameron Campbell.

But that lead was short-lived when the Bulldogs (14-9) erupted for eight runs off four pitchers in the sixth inning and then added three more runs in the seventh.

It could have been worse, too, had Fresno State not left 13 runners on base.

McCarthy Tatum led the Bulldogs' 16-hit attack by going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Nolan Dempsey drove in three runs, and leadoff hitter Zach Ashford scored three times. Dempsey, Ryan Higgins and Nate Thimjon all had two hits.

The Ducks were held to three hits — a double by Tanner Smith and singles from Foxcroft and Spencer Steer.
