OREM, Utah — The Oregon baseball team got home runs from Taylor Adams and Gabe Matthews on Wednesday in a 12-9 nonconference baseball win over Utah Valley at UCCU Ballpark.
The Ducks led 7-5 after two innings before Utah Valley scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the score at 7-7.
Adams then hit a three-run homer to center field to score Matthews and Jonny DeLuca to give Oregon the lead for good at 10-7.
The Wolverines (5-19) pulled within 10-9 in the seventh inning, but the Ducks (13-10) responded with a Tanner Smith RBI single in the eighth inning and a bases-loaded walk to Kyle Froemke later that inning for the final score.
Matthews, who hit a three-run home run in a six-run second inning, drove in four runs and scored twice. Spencer Steer was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, Adams was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and DeLuca and Sam Novitske both scored twice.
Petyon Fuller pitched scoreless fifth and sixth innings to get the win, allowing two hits. Ryne Nelson, the seventh Oregon pitcher of the game, struck out two batters to earn the save in the ninth.
