SPRINGFIELD — Decker Stedman led from the mound and at the plate during the opening game of Thurston'sMidwestern League baseball doubleheader sweep of visiting Willamette on Saturday.

Starting pitcher Stedman went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer run and also had 11 strikeouts in the Colts' 11-1 six-inning win, which was followed by a 4-3 victory.

Isaiah Burke also went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and five RBIs for Thurston in the first game, Josh Moser had three hits and two RBIs and Jake Riley had two hits and and RBI.

In the second game, Ty Kistner had two RBI, cade Crist had two hits.

For Willamette, Jarrett Allen had a hit and an RBI in the opener and Kadin Sandow had a hit and two RBIs in the second game.

Churchill 24, Springfield 1; Churchill 14, Springfield 2: The Lancers won a pair of five-inning games at home in their season openers. CJ Townsend had five hits and scored five runs in the opener, Carson Lydon had three hits and five RBIs, and Prestin White had three RBIs. In the second game, Mason Crowson had two hits and three RBIs.

Midwestern League

Thurston 13, Willamette 4; Thurston 22, Willamette 5: Harmony Stevens pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the opener, and Allyson Keefauver went 4-for-4 with two doubles. In the second game, Olivia Jetvig was 3-for-5 with two doubles and Cailee Hallett had two hits, including a double. For the Wolverines, Trinity Collins had two hits in the second game.

Nonleague

Harrisburg 11, Brookings 1; Harrisburg 13, Brookings 7: Delaney Buzzard hit a home run and Cynthia Downs and Hailee Johnson had two hits apiece in the opener for the Eagles. Buzzard pitched all seven innings with 11 strikeouts in the second game, and Sydney Gent was 3-for-4.

North Douglas 6, Glide 3: Nicki Derrick had 11 strikeouts from the circle and also went 2-for-4 with a double as the Warriors won their season-opener at home. Halli Vaughn also had two doubles, and Sophie Alcantar and Hope Ward had three hits each.

TRACK AND FIELD

• Sheldon's Matthew Burgess and Churchill's Simon Dexter were both double-winners a meet hosted by South Eugene. Burgess won the 100 meters in 11.24 seconds and the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 11 inches. Dexter won the 110 hurdles in 16.42 and the long jump at 20-5. South Eugene's Taylor Chocek also won a pair of events in the girls meet, with a victory in the 100 hurdles in 15.32 and in the high jump at 5-0.
