FULLERTON, Calif. — The No. 20 Oregon softball team opened the Judi Garman Classic with a pair of one-run losses on Thursday at Anderson Family Field.

The Ducks (11-6) fell 2-1 to No. 3 Florida and 3-2 to host Cal State Fullerton.

Jordan Dail (9-2) suffered her first losses of the season, despite allowing only six hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts and three walks over six innings against the Gators (19-1).

In the opener, April Utecht gave Oregon a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning after belting her third home run of the season.

Florida answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead.

The Gators bounced back from their first defeat of the season, Wednesday’s 7-1 loss to No. 2 UCLA, by beating New Mexico 1-0 on Thursday morning before their win over Oregon.

Florida all-American Kelly Barnhill (11-1) allowed three hits and the lone earned run with nine strikeouts and one walk over seven innings.

Seeking an insurance run in the sixth, the Gators were unable to take advantage of a leadoff walk as Dail responded with a strikeout and catcher Shaye Bowden threw a runner out at second base for a double play.

Oregon senior Cherish Burks had a home run taken away by leaping Florida center fielder Jade Caraway in the second.

In the second game, the Ducks trailed 2-0 after Maggie MacGrandle gave up a solo home run in the first inning and an RBI single in the third.

In the fourth, freshman Jasmine Sievers delivered an RBI single and freshman Hannah Galey drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the score 2-2.

MacGrandle allowed five hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts and a walk over three innings. Dail pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief before giving up the game-winning RBI single to DeShea Hill in the bottom of the seventh.

The Titans improved to 10-6 after the walk-off win.

Oregon will play No. 22 Auburn at 10 a.m. Friday before concluding the tournament against Michigan and No. 7 Tennessee on Saturday.
