CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. — Pitcher Jordan Dail and the Oregon softball continued their impressive start to the season with a 6-1 win against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday in the final game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Dail (9-0) threw six innings of one-run ball and the No. 17 Ducks finished 4-2 on the weekend to improve to 11-4 overall.

April Utecht led Oregon’s nine-hit attack. The senior designated player doubled, homered and drove in three runs.

Her two-run double in the third capped a three-run inning that put the Ducks up 4-0. Utecht’s solo home run in the fifth made it 6-0.

That was more than enough run support for Dail, who allowed four hits and two walks over six innings. Maddie MacGrandle took over in the seventh and put the Gauchos down in order to secure the win.

Dail finished the weekend with a 4-0 record in five appearances, allowing seven runs with 28 strikeouts over 29 2/3 total innings. She lowered her season ERA to 2.33.

Shaye Bowden also had three hits and two RBIs for Oregon, raising her batting average to a team-high .409.
