The regular-season schedule is essentially over for the Oregon track and field team, which has the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships next weekend and the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships March 8-9.

The exception comes Friday and Saturday for the men’s distance team as it heads to Seattle for the UW Last Chance meet in Dempsey Indoor.

The goal is to get a few more NCAA qualifiers in the mile while also strengthening the standing of those already in qualifying position.

At 5:15 p.m. Friday, Cooper Teare, Austin Tamagno, Jack Yearian and Soren Knudsen are entered in the mile.

On Saturday at 3:20 p.m., Reed Brown, Blake Haney, Charlie Hunter, Jackson Mestler and James West are entered in the men’s invitational mile.

Also Friday, Oregon has entered a pair of distance medley relay teams.

One team is West, Jacob Miller, Brown and Teare. The other is Mestler, Tamagno, Yearian and Knudsen.

Brown already has the eighth-best mile time in the NCAA this winter at 3 minutes, 58.22 seconds. Teare is 13th at 3:59.21. Teare is also ranked seventh in the 3,000.

The DMR team of Haney, Miller, Brown and West have the NCAA's third-fastest time this year at 9:36.21.

The NCAA takes the top 16 declared athletes in each individual event to the championship meet, and the top 12 relays teams.
