First-year Oregon softball coach Melyssa Lombardi announced the signing of three top-level recruits to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, including Marist High School standout Ariel Carlson.

All three of Oregon's signees are ranked in the top 35 of the FloSoftball's hot 100 rankings. The other two signees are Makenna Kliethermes, a right-handed pitcher from Wardsville, Mo., and Deijah Pangilinan, an outfielder from Vallejo, Calif.

Carlson, ranked 21st in the FloSoftball rankings, is the top-ranked recruit in Oregon. Last year, she was the Gatorade Oregon player of the year after hitting .682 with 19 home runs, 71 RBIs and a .737 on-base percentage. She has 51 homers and 195 RBIs in three seasons at Marist and was 22-2 in the pitching circle last year with 1.09 ERA and 204 strikeouts. She was a key part of the Spartans' 2017 5A state championship team.
