SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The 11th-ranked Oregon men finished fifth at the NCAA West Regional cross country meet on Friday and will now have to wait for an at-large invitation to the NCAA championship meet.
Senior Blake Haney led the Ducks with an eighth-place finish in 29 minutes, 48.11 seconds on the 10,000-meter Haggin Oaks Golf Complex course, as they scored 154 teams points to place well behind Portland (81), Washington (87), Boise State (107) and Stanford (115).
The Pilots and Huskies automatically qualified for the national championship meet, scheduled for Nov. 17 in Madison, Wis.
Also scoring for Oregon was No. 18 Cooper Teare (29:53.84), No. 22 Jackson Mestler (29:58.79), No. 50 Jack Yearian (30:38.67) and No. 56 Charlie Hunter (30:42.89).
Portland’s Nick Hauger won the individual title in 29:42.32.
The 13 at-large teams for the NCAA championships will be selected on Saturday.
