SURPRISE, ARIZ. — Oregon's Thomas Laurent had little trouble in advancing Thursday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Fall Championships.
The Duck senior, the No. 5 overall seed, breezed by Tulane's Ewan Moore 6-1, 6-1 in the second round to move into the tournament's round of 16. Laurent will face John McNalley, the No. 10 seed from Ohio State, at 9 a.m. Friday for the right to play in the afternoon's quarterfinals.
Oregon's Emmanuel Coste bounced back from his first-round loss by beating Rrezart Cungu of Wake Forest in the consolation bracket, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
In doubles play, Laurent and teammate Joshua Charlton fell to Tim Ruehl and Andrea Bella of Arizona State 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5) in the first round of the consolation bracket.
