PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Craig Ronne's 5-under 66 was the second-best round of the day and vaulted the Oregon golfer into second place after the second round of the Saint Mary's Invitational on Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Club.
Ronne's two-round 137 is seven strokes behind leader Peter Kuest of Brigham Young at 130. Fellow Duck Edwin Yi also turned in a strong day, shooting a 69 that left him in a tie for eighth at 140. Ryan Gronlund shot a 72 and is in a tied for 36th at 145.
Oregon jumped from ninth to fifth in the team standings at 1-under 567, 18 strokes off the pace of leader BYU (549).
Oregon State (579) slipped from sixth to ninth in the 18-team event, and is led by Spencer Tibbits who is tied for 23rd at 143. Sean Kato shot a 74 on Tuesday and is tied for 36th at 145.
The final round is Wednesday.
