PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Oregon State is tied for sixth and Oregon is ninth after the first round of the Saint Mary's Invitational men's golf tournament Monday at Poppy Hills Golf Club.

The Beavers shot a 2-over 286 and are 15 strokes off the pace of leader BYU at 13-under 271. The Ducks are at 7-over 291 in the three-day event.

Three Beavers and two Ducks are among a group of 14 golfers tied for 13th at even-par 71. They include Sean Kato, Spencer Tibbits and Nolan Thoroughgood of Oregon State, and Craig Ronne and Edwin Yi of Oregon. The leader is Peter Kuest of BYU at 61.
