Miranda Elish and Lauren Burke are doing the Texas two-step.
The former Oregon softball stars, who announced their intention to transfer last week, will both continue playing for coach Mike White after signing with the Longhorns on Monday.
Elish and Burke were granted their release by Oregon and will be eligible to play for Texas during the upcoming 2019 season.
“We are stoked to reunite with Coach White, Coach (Chelsea) Spencer and Coach (Kailee Cuico),” Burke tweeted. “Cannot wait to get to work with the team.”
Elish posted a 37-2 record with a 1.42 earned-run average over the past two seasons with the Ducks. As a sophomore, the former No. 1 overall high school recruit threw a perfect game against Portland State and pitched two games in the Women’s College World Series.
“Beyond excited that (Burke) and I have found our new perfect fit with Texas softball,” Elish tweeted. “I am so grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get down to Austin and start working! Hok ‘em.”
Burke, a prep All-American at Marist High standout, batted .351 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 36 games as a true freshman. She had pinch-hit home runs against Albany and Drake during the NCAA Regional at Jane Sanders Stadium.
Elish and Burke helped lead Oregon to the Pac-12 championship last season. White left for Texas after another disappointing performance for Oregon in the WCWS.
“This is truly a big day for Texas softball as we are very excited to add two dynamic players to our 2019 roster,” White said in a release. “Both Miranda Elish and Lauren Burke are players that possess tremendous passion and enthusiasm for the game.
“They are true difference makers and will have a big impact on how our team fares during the upcoming season.”
Under new coach Melyssa Lombardi, the Ducks went 8-0 and outscored the opposition 114-2 during the fall exhibition season.
