SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Oregon men's golf team is tied for seventh and Oregon State is tied for 10th after the first round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Course.
The Ducks and Beavers are opening their fall seasons at the tournament that runs through Sunday.
Oregon shot a 5-under 275 on the 7,081-yard, par-70 course to tie Georgia State and Auburn after the first round. LSU leads the team race at 17-under 263, two shots ahead of Georgia Tech and Arizona State. Oregon State shot a 3-under 277 and is tied for 10th win Kansas State in the 14-team event.
LSU's Luis Gagne took the individual lead at 8-under 62, one shot ahead of Oregon State's Shawn Lu who tied a school record with a 63. Oregon's Edwin Yi is tied for 12th at 66 with teammate Sam Foust tied for 15th at 67.
Oregon State's Nolan Thoroughgood shot a 69 to tie for 30th. Teammate Spencer Tibbits and Oregon's Ryan Gronlund are among a number of golfers tied for 36th at 70.
