Troy Dye and Justin Hollins were among 51 linebackers named to the watch list for the Butkus Award on Monday.
Dye could be one of the favorites for the honor given to the nation’s top linebacker after leading Oregon with 107 tackles last year and 91 as a freshman. The 6-foot-4, 224-pound junior is one of five players in a Power 5 Conference to lead his team in tackles during each of the past two seasons.
Dye has 26 ½ tackles for loss, including 10 ½ sacks, to go with two interceptions in two seasons. He is also on the watch list for the Bednarik Award given to the top defender in college football.
Hollins had a career-high 59 tackles last season after getting 51 as a sophomore.
The 6-5, 242-pound senior had 11 ½ tackles for loss last season, giving him 22 in his career. Hollins had 3 1/3 sacks while forcing three fumbles last season. He returned his first career interception for a touchdown against Oregon State.
The watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award was also revealed on Monday, but no Oregon defensive backs made the cut.
