Jimmy Kolaitis, an Oregon softball assistant the past five seasons, has been named the head coach at Alabama-Birmingham.
The Ducks compiled a 256-42-1 record with four Pac-12 championships with Kolaitis serving as coach Mike White’s recruiting coordinator and hitting coach.
“Jimmy is a hard worker. He’s one of those unsung heroes that you don’t see,” White said during Oregon’s appearance in the Women’s College World Series earlier this month in Oklahoma City. “Whenever somebody wants to go and hit extra, he’s there, no questions asked. He’s always trying to get better. He’s always calling people and has great contacts. He’s trying to reach out and find different ways to do things, and so I respect him for that.
"He’s going to be a great head coach one day.”
UAB finished 22-29-1 in 2018 with a 13-7-1 record in Conference USA.
