TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Oregon State softball team rebounded from its opening-day loss to beat Middle Tennessee and Wisconsin on Saturday to advance to the championship of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional.
The Beavers will need to knock off host Alabama twice Sunday for the right to advance to the super regionals. The teams play at 11:30 a.m., and would battle again at 2 p.m. if OSU wins the first game.
Oregon State downed Middle Tennessee 4-0 and Wisconsin 5-1 in elimination games Saturday, with the Beavers earning a measure of revenge after falling to the Badgers 9-3 in Friday's opening round. Alabama, meanwhile, had beaten Wisconsin 9-1 earlier Saturday.
Meerha Nelson gave up just two hits in seven innings of work against Middle Tennessee, while Shelby Weeks was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs. The Beavers scored once in the first and third innings, and put the game away with a pair of runs in the seventh. Alysha Everett finished with a pair of RBIs.
Against Wisconsin, Mariah Mazon tossed a three-hitter for Oregon State, striking out eight in seven innings. Hope Brandner stroked a pair of hits and had an RBI for the Beavers, while Camryn Ybarra and Missy Nunes each had a hit and an RBI. OSU scored three times in the third inning, twice on throwing errors and once on a Nunes single.
