DURHAM, N.C. – Oregon's Shweta Sangwen and Paiton Wagner each posted singles victories but the No. 3-ranked Duke women's tennis team posted a 4-2 victory over the No. 33 Ducks in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
Oregon ends its season at 16-10, its best finish since 2005, while the Blue Devils improve to 24-3.
"Another hard-fought battle," UO coach Alison Silverio said in a release. "We certainly had our opportunities, but could not quite shut the door."
Sangwan, ranked No. 87, defeated No. 55 Meible Chi, 6-1, 6-2. Wagner downed Hannah Zhao 6-4, 6-3.
Oregon's Alyssa Tobita, ranked No. 42, was in a tight battle with No. 6 Samantha Harris when Duke secured the clinching team point. Tobita will play in the NCAA Singles Tournament later this month.
