SAN FRANCISCO — The Oregon women's golf team is tied for fourth place after Monday's first day of the NCAA San Francisco Regional at TPC Harding Park.
Oregon shot a 1-under 287 on the opening day of the regional tournament. The top six teams after the three rounds qualify for the NCAA Championships later this month in Stillwater, Okla.
UCLA, the nation's top-ranked team, leads the regional field with an 8-under 280. Kent State and Colorado are tied for second at 4-under 284, followed by Louisville, Oregon and Stanford. San Diego State and North Carolina are tied for seventh at 1-over 289 in the 18-team field.
Oregon's Kathleen Scavo and Amy Matsuoka both shot under par in the opening round. Scavo is tied for fifth place after opening with a 2-under 70. Matsuoka is part of a 15-player tie for 10th place at 1-under 71. Among the golfers Matsuoka is tied with is San Diego State's Haleigh Krause, a Sheldon High School graduate.
Oregon's Alexis Phadungmartvorakul is tied for 25th place at even par, Petra Salko is tied for 42nd at 2-over 74 and Madi Daniel is tied for 88th at 8-over 80.
Stanford's Andrea Lee, Colorado's Brittany Fan and UCLA's Mariel Galdiano are tied for first at 6-under 66. UCLA's Patty Tavatanakit is fourth, two shots behind the leaders.
Oregon State in fifth place in NCAA regional
MADISON, Wis. — The Oregon State women's golf team is in fifth place after Monday's first day of the three-day NCAA Madison Regional at University Ridge Golf Course.
The top six teams after the three rounds of the regional tournament will advance to the NCAA Championships later this month in Stillwater, Okla.
The Beavers shot a 1-over 289 on Monday. Virginia leads the regional at 9-under 279, four shots ahead of Duke. USC is in third at 3-under 285, two shots ahead of defending national champion Arizona State, which sits fourth. Wisconsin is in sixth place, one shot behind Oregon State. Illinois and Ohio State are in seventh and eighth, respectively, three and four shots behind Oregon State.
Oregon State's Nicole Schroeder is tied for third individually at 4-under 68. She is one shot behind Beth Lillie of Virginia and Gabby Curtis of Wisconsin.
Oregon State's Olivia Benzin is in an eight-way tie for 18th place at even-par. Mari Nishiura is tied for 43rd place at 2-over 74 for the Beavers. Ellie Slama and Susie Cavanagh are in a logjam with eight others in 52nd place at 3-over 75.
