Aidan Schneider is ready to kick down another door.

The former Oregon placekicker, who went from walk-on to first-team all-Pac-12 selection during his college career, is packing his bags for Kansas City to participate in the Chiefs’ rookie minicamp this weekend.

Schneider is one of several Ducks not drafted who will get an opportunity to prove himself on the field with an NFL team.

“I think a lot of times with stuff like this, in a way you’re auditioning for all 32 teams,” Schneider said. “Because everyone has connections, and they talk a lot. I hope this opens some doors.”

Kansas City’s incumbent placekicker, Harrison Butker, was 38-for-42 (90.5 percent) on field goals and made all 28 of his extra points as a rookie last season. After getting drafted in the seventh round by the Carolina Panthers and then waived, Butker was signed by the Chiefs last September.

During the 2017 season, Butker made the game-winning field goal against Washington in his first game and became the only NFL kicker to make five field goals in two games as a rookie.

“As a specialist, opportunities can be few and far between. You’ve got to stay ready,” Schneider said. “My approach will be to really just stay relaxed. I’m confident in my abilities."

Schneider made 51 of his 60 field goal attempts (85 percent) with a long of 47 yards with the Ducks. As a senior, the Portland native made all 63 of his extra point attempts and recorded 42 touchbacks on 84 kickoffs.

“I think getting in an NFL building and talking to coaches is going to be invaluable,” Schneider said. “I think my experience at Oregon has helped a lot competing with (Matt) Wogan for multiple years. I’m in a similar situation now having to prove myself.”

The list of Oregon players who have signed as undrafted free agents this week includes safety Tyree Robinson (Dallas Cowboys), cornerback Arrion Springs (Kansas City Chiefs), cornerback Ty Griffin (Tennessee Titans), defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux (New Orleans Saints), defensive lineman Scott Pagano (Seattle Seahawks) and long snapper Tanner Carew (Seahawks).

Chris Seisay, a former Oregon defensive back who transferred to Portland State, signed with the Green Bay Packers. Churchill High graduate Skyler Phillips, who played at Idaho State, signed with the Seahawks.
