COTTAGE GROVE — Just a month after leading Cottage Grove to a tie for the Sky-Em League title, coach Kevin Yoss announced his resignation as the school’s girls basketball coach on Wednesday.

Yoss, who previously had been an assistant coach for the boys basketball team, had been the girls basketball coach since 2015. Last season, the Lions went 9-1 to tie Junction City for the Sky-Em League title, losing to the Tigers in a tiebreaker, then losing to Yamhill-Carlton in a Class 4A play-in game.

The Lions made the state playoffs in 2017, losing at Cascade in a first-round game. Cottage Grove went 8-2 in league play that season to finish second to eventual state champion Sutherlin. Yoss was named league coach of the year.
